Transeasonal styling would have to be up there with one of the biggest grievances when it comes to getting dressed. Especially in those notoriously indecisive places where it’s beautiful and sunny one day and experiencing an arctic blast the next.
With one month to go until spring, retailers are dropping their new season product, so how do we navigate these awkward, in between months? Well, the key is to buy smart and to layer, layer, layer! Here are our top transeasonal must haves:
If you don’t already own one, a good mid-weight jacket should be at the top of your shopping list. This staple piece is one of the easiest items to transition from the depths of winter into the first flutters of spring. When the seasons start to change instead of wearing your jacket over heavy wintery fabrics, team it with softer materials. Try silk pants, floaty dresses or denim jeans with a slogan tee for your perfect off-duty weekend combo.
White boyfriend shirt
Few things are as versatile and classic as a crisp white shirt. A good boyfriend shirt will take you all the way from summer to winter and in-between. The sleeves will keep you warm in winter, while the lightweight material is breathable during warmer weather. It can be paired with everything from jeans, heels and a blazer, sneakers and tennis shoes, long, flowy, pencil or short skirts in denim or chiffon and so much more. You can even wear them under knits and dresses for a preppy look. If you’re after something a bit more mature, pair a white shirt with some tailored pants, a pair of pointed flats and a statement earring.
Beloved by celebs, designers, and bloggers for their style and comfort, no transeasonal wardrobe is complete without a jumper dress. They are the ideal piece to achieve a cool, effortless and laid back look, while still keeping toasty. These versatile babies are understated enough to rock to the office with stockings and flats or wear thrown on a pair of knee high boots for a night out with girls. A cute pair of bulky sneakers or combat boots paired with your jumper dress is also the ultimate brunch look.
Long sleeved printed dress
Florals for winter? That actually is groundbreaking. Don’t stash your flowery printed dresses away for the winter months, let them be free. A long-sleeved floral dress paired with a leather jacket is an incredibly cool way to heat up your winter wardrobe. Style your favourite summer dress with a leather, plaid or denim jacket, long boots even tennis shoes (depending on the occasion). We love a flirty, feminine, floral print in moody hues, paired with some grungy leather and a killer pair of suede boots.
Thanks everyone for all the lovely comments about tonight’s @theprojecttv dress. I loved it too. It’s @huskofficial by @kirrilyjohnston #royalwedding #thesundayproject #royalweddinghangover #towerbridgelondon #toweroflondon #london #thames #riverthames And a big thank you to @trickboxtv for having us. Your studio view is incredible!
A midi skirt is a solid fashion investment, no matter the season. From European summers to chilly Aussie winters, a midi skirt will see you handle even the most turbulent season changes. A heavier fabric such as a wool knit, denim or leather will keep you warm through winter, while a floaty chiffon or cotton will be best for spring or summer. A striped skirt and simple boyfriend shirt with bright coloured flats are perfect for when spring has sprung. A leather pencil skirt with a cool slogan tee and pumps will make an edgy addition to your winter wardrobe or a pleated metallic skirt paired with a chunky knit is also one of our favourite looks when the weather cools down.
Knits for winter are an absolute must, however, they are also great pieces for spring. Throw your favourite muted coloured knit over a dress with a pair of boots. You can also tuck your cosy jumpers into denim and floral skirts or team them with a killer pair of shorts. Knits are also great to pop on with a pair of jeans and pointed flats if you’re looking for a more sophisticated casual look. They’re the ultimate wardrobe staple for any season, age or style.
Ankle length dresses are ideal for the in-between weather and can carry across many different occasions. They are great to slip on for a weekend adventure, or for a shopping trip with friends. You can rock one with a chunky cardigan if you need a bit of extra warmth or with a chic jacket for something more dressy. They are comfortable, flattering and super stylish, take it from everyone’s fave mum-treprenure, Zoe Foster-Blake.
Well, that was fun! (For me – the audience may have a differing opinion.) Thanks for having me, #voguecodes. And good on you for being an advocate of women in tech and business. Tech, after all, is simply a (very accessible and malleable) vessel for all of our creative and business endeavors. All barriers to entry are gone: we are all equals, we all have the same tools to reach An Audience, or sell A Thing, now! It’s wonderful! Without modern technology, my D2C skin care business couldn’t exist, my public mouthpiece (Instagram/blog/Twitter) would be enormously limited and inflexible, and my ability to buy shoes very quickly from another country would dissolve. Must have transeasonal accessories:
Wide brim hat: Give your wintery a look a boho update and nothing says springtime like a few boho vibes.
Open toe or ankle boots: The rest of your feet can still keep cosy while your toes can have a bit of room to breathe. Open toe boots are edgy, stylish and more comfortable as the warmer weather rolls in. Ankle boots are also in keeping with winter and will ensure your spring look is still seasonally appropriate.
Over the knee boots: These are the best way to keep your pins warm while rocking a dress or short skirt in winter. No tights required.
A good pair of stockings: A hero pair of stockings the won’t ladder and are thick enough to keep you warm are the perfect addition to your winter/spring wardrobe.
